Belfast To Host 'Solstice Run'

Belfast Council has announced city's the first ever 'solstice run' will take place on 21 June.

Celebrating the longest day of the year, the event will raise money for the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice.

The five kilometre event will begin at 20:00 at Belfast City Hall.

Similar events are already organised all over the world, but now the 'solstice run' is being organised in Belfast for the first time.

One of the race organisers, Stuart Kennedy from Beechmount Harriers, said: "The Solstice Run event is already established in cities all over the world and I'm excited that it`s going to be taking place in the streets of Belfast. I think it`s so important to get everyone up and active and what's great about this event is that it's suitable for all abilities: you can run, walk or jog the 5k route.

"I'm encouraging the whole city to come behind the Belfast Solstice Run and we've received great support already from the local running community. We're also delighted that a wide range of sponsors have come onboard for the event, including Belfast City Council."

The Solstice Run will take participants on a two-lap journey around the inner streets of the city centre, passing popular landmarks including the Albert Clock, St. George`s Market and the Linen Hall Library.
