£110k Towards Cross Community Project
£110,000 has been awarded by the Department for Social Development towards a cross-community project which will see a former church transformed into a shared cultural space.
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland awarded the Neighbourhood Renewal funding to the £3m project.
Former Duncairn Presbyterian Church is being transformed into a Community Resource, Arts and Cultural Centre on the Antrim Road in north Belfast.
Just over £1.5m put forward by the International Fund for Ireland, while just under a million was provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund.,
Minister McCausland said: "I am pleased that my department has been able to provide this funding to this worthwhile community project, which be a major boost to north Belfast. This major regeneration project will see the former Presbyterian Church restored and transformed into a centre for culture, arts and heritage. It will provide an enhanced shared space for the people of north Belfast and beyond whilst bringing the facility into community use.
"The transformation of this building fits with my Department’s strategic objectives of physical, community and social renewal. These objectives aim to improve the quality of life for people in some of our most deprived neighbourhoods, whilst also improving facilities to make them more welcoming to others and boost local pride for residents "
174 Trust, the group behind the project, is a non-denominational Christian organisation that facilitates community projects in north Belfast.
