Britvic To Close Belfast Factory
Up to 20 jobs are under threat at a soft drinks factory in Belfast after Britvic said it plans to close its base on the Castlereagh Road early next year.
The company has been operating at the site for 20 years.
The job losses come just a day after Britvic posted a 50% jump in pre-tax profits to £37.5m for the 28 weeks to mid-April.
It added that the cost of its latest cuts would total £30m over three years.
On Wednesday, the firm said it was also to close its factories in Chelmsford and Huddersfield.
The measures are part of the company's plans to merge its UK and Irish operations, which could mean a total of between 300 and 400 people losing their jobs.
DUP MLA Robin Newton said it was "a sad day" for the people of the area.
He added: "It's about people, it's mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, local families who face an uncertain future.
"All that can be done to provide help and assistance to the employees to get a job or job training must be done by the minister for employment and learning."
Unite added that the announcement was a "bitter blow".

The massive international soft drinks brand, Britvic, has announced that it had bought Co Tyrone-based drinks wholesaler Quinn's from C&C-owned Tennents for an undisclosed sum. Quinn employs 30 people in Cookstown, providing drink wholesale and distribution to 800 outlets with turnover last year of £18m.

Fujitsu Plans To Axe 1,800 Jobs Across The UK
Japanese electronics firm Fujitsu has announced plans which could cut up to 1,800 jobs across the UK. The company currently employs 550 people in Belfast and 250 in L'Derry, and it is understood these workers may be affected. The plan would see employees being axed in 2017.

540 jobs are to created over four years as a result of a £29m capital investment by diagnostics firm Randox. Randox, headquartered in Crumlin, Co. Antrim, specialises in the development of diagnostic tests and technology, primarily targeted at hospital, clinical, food safety, toxicology and veterinary laboratories.
