Downpatrick escapees to appear before court
Two men who escaped from Downpatrick Magistrates' Court last week are to appear in the same court later today after being aprehended over the weekend.
22-year-old David Taggart, who is awaiting sentence on murder, and 31-year-old Ian Oliver Carlin, who is on remand for serious robbery offences and false imprisonment, absconded from court on Thursday by overpowering a police officer during the escape.
Taggart was arrested following a police operation in the Ormeau area of south Belfast around 6pm last night.
Carlin was arrested at Colinglen Road in West Belfast at around 9pm later that evening.
The police officer injured during the escape is believed to have suffered a suspected fractured skull.

Joe Reilly Murder: Man Arrested
A 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Joe Reilly. Mr Reilly, 43, was shot at his home in the Glenwood Court area of Poleglass, west Belfast, on 20 October. The suspect was arrested on Monday, 19 December, and has been taken to Musgrave Police station to be questioned.

Two men escape from Co Down courthouse
Two men have escaped from a courthouse in Co Down today. The men, described by police as "dangerous", are believed to have overpowered a police officer during the escape which took place at Downpatrick Court House just before 1pm. He was taken to hospital shortly afterwards suffering from a head injury and severe shock.

Man Seriously Attacked In South Belfast
Police are appealing for information after a man was seriously attacked in south Belfast. The assault occurred at a property in the Wauchope Court area on New Year's Eve. The man, aged in his 20s, is being treated in hospital. Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
