Man Fined For Miming Firing Rocket Launcher At Police

A man has been fined £300 at Londonderry Magistrate’s Court after admitting that he repeatedly mimed aiming a rocket launcher at a police patrol.

The BBC have reported that 26-year-old John Gallagher from Brandywell Road, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour.

The offence happened at Shipquay Street on 25 November.

The district judge heard that Gallagher came out of a crowd four times, dropped to his knee and mimicked firing a rocket launcher at a police Land Rover.

It is understood that on the fourth such occasion, police ran after Gallagher and arrested him.

According to the BBC, the judge told Gallagher that his actions could have had fatal consequences for him. He said his actions were those of a teenager and not something one would expect from a 26-year-old adult.
