£10.1m Road Schemes Completed In Omagh
£10.1m of road schemes have been completed in Omagh in the past year, according to the Department of Transport.
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has commended the Roads Service and its contractors on the news.
The Minister will meet with the Roads Service and Omagh District Council this evening.
Mr Kennedy said: "Throughout Roads Service, my Department has invested over £100m in structural maintenance, improving many miles of road infrastructure across Northern Ireland in the last financial year.
"In particular in the Omagh area, despite ever increasing demands on budgets, Roads Service invested over £10.1m in delivering a comprehensive range of road schemes and maintenance work.
"Roads Service is using its available resources highly effectively and continues to deliver quality public services in the Omagh area and across Northern Ireland."
Highlighting the A32 Shannaragh Realignment scheme, the Minister said: "Road users in the Omagh District area have quickly realised the benefits of the investment by the Department with the completion of the £7.3m A32 Shannaragh Realignment scheme which opened to traffic in December 2012, three months ahead of schedule."
Previewing the work scheduled in the area over the next year, Danny Kennedy said: "Roads Service’s proposed programme for this financial year includes resurfacing sections of the A5 Curr Road from Church Road to Crannoge Road, A5 Doogary Road at the Camowen Road junction and the A505 Killyclogher Road from the Arleston Road to Old Mountfield Road.
"Local transport and safety schemes include completion of the extension to Beragh Bridge to provide footways on either side and improvements to forward sight distance on the B50 Gillygooley Road on the approach to Gillygooley Primary School."
