Bangor murder linked to a loyalist drug feud

Security forces have indicated that the shooting of a man in Bangor last night could have links with a loyalist feud over drugs.

The man was shot dead outside a house at Ballyrobert Road at around 10.40pm last night.

Police believe two gunmen were involved in the attack and that they made off on foot towards the main Bangor to Belfast Road.

It is believed that the victim was a senior figure in the Red Hand Commando - a paramilitary group said to have close ties to the UVF - and there are suspicions of a drugs-related motive to the shooting.

Police have appealed for anyone who was in the Ballyrobert Road area of Bangor or on the Bangor to Belfast Road anytime between 10pm and 11pm to contact detectives at Bangor on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
