Teenage Births Lowest On Record
Last year the number of births to teenage mums in Northern Ireland fell to the lowest number on record.
The news comes as provisional 2012 birth statistics are released today by the Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).
The number of births to teenage mums was 1,100 in 2012; the lowest on record.
The report also found a continuing trend towards childbearing later in life.
In 2012, half of all births were to mothers aged 30 or more.
About 10% of births were to mothers who themselves were born outside the UK and Ireland.
The report also found that 43% of births were to unmarried parents; the highest figure ever.
Overall there were 25,300 live births registered in 2012; a similar number to 2011.
David Marshall from NISRA said: "In overall terms the number of births has remained broadly stable over the last five years. However, the number of births to older mothers continues to rise and the number to younger mothers, especially teenage mothers, falls. These demographic changes will have an impact on society and future public policy."

Fall In Births To Teenage Mothers
The number of births to teenage mothers dropped to less than 1,000 in 2013, according to the latest figures released by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA). In total, there were 24,300 live births registered in 2013, amounting to 1,000 less than in 2012.
