Botanic Inns In Administration
Belfast pub chain Botanic Inns has been placed into administration.
Joint administrators John Hansen and Stuart Irwin of KPMG in Belfast have confirmed the company, which employs about 600 people in 16 outlets, will continue trading while a buyer is sought.
Botanic Inns counts Madison's Hotel, The Northern Whig, McHugh's and 'The Bot' in Belfast among its portfolio. It also owns two Dr:nk off-licenses.
Alliance Belfast Councillor Catherine Curran has expressed shock at the news.
She said: "I am shocked that Botanic Inns have been put into administration. They run some of our most popular and well known pubs.
"This is of great concern for the 600 employees.
"This chain has played an important role in Belfast’s night time economy which could be badly affected by this move. It could also have a knock on effect on other traders in Belfast who could see a drop in business."
