Glen Dimplex acquires Galaxy Showers

Glen Dimplex has acquired Galaxy Showers, a UK manufacturer of electric showers.

Galaxy, which has a turnover of £5 million, is located in Birmingham and was founded in 1996 by Mr Graham Tiso, its principal shareholder.

Glen Dimplex Chief Executive, Sean O'Driscoll said: "Entry into the UK and Irish electric showers market has been a key strategic objective for the Group. The Galaxy know-how and technology when combined with the Group's existing brands and customer base gives us the opportunity to create a significant business in this rapidly growing household product category."

Glen Dimplex, a privately owned Irish Group, has an annual turnover of €1.3 billion and employs 8,500 people worldwide, with 2,500 employed in Ireland (North and South).

The group has substantial electrical appliance manufacturing operations in Ireland (both North and South) England, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Hungary, Canada, Norway and China.

It has manufacturing operations in Ireland are located in Dunleer, Co Louth, Tralee, Co Kerry, Newry, Bangor, Co Down and in Portadown, Co Armagh.

Glen Dimplex to acquire Dimpco and Brownbrook
Glen Dimplex has agreed to acquire two domestic appliance distribution companies, Dimpco and Brownbrook for an undisclosed sum. The two companies Dimpco and Brownbrook are leading distributors of domestic electrical appliances to the retail and wholesale industries in the south and north of Ireland respectively.

Allergan Prescribes Jobs As Lloyds Cuts-back
Ireland had both good and bad news on jobs this week with the medical firm Allergan set to create 20 manufacturing jobs in Westport, Co Mayo. It plans to make its latest product, SeriScaffold, which is used in tissue generation, including breast reconstruction, at the plant.
