EIB To Invest €200m In Irish SMEs

Chairperson of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs, Dominic Hannigan T.D., has welcomed news that the European Investment Bank (EIB) will make €200 million in loans available to Irish small and medium businesses through AIB.

These loans will be offered to SMEs at a cheaper rate thanks to the EIB.

Mr Hannigan said: "The provision of new, cheaper loans from the EIB is good news for Irish businesses. There is a vibrant and growing start-up community in Ireland and the availability of €200 million to SMEs will provide cheaper, better loans for new start-ups and for established businesses. This fund will help Irish businesses to develop and expand, creating employment and growth in the Irish economy.

"The announcement from the EIB this week is a ringing endorsement for Ireland. It demonstrates that Ireland's reputation is recovering and that the Irish economy is getting back on track. The three priorities of the Irish Presidency have been stability, growth and jobs. The news from the EIB is a vindication of Ireland’s progress to recovery and to the positive impact of our EU Presidency."
