Colin Farrell Film Shoots In Fermanagh
Principal photography has begun on a new film being filmed in Fermanagh, starring Colin Farrell and Jessica Chastain.
Miss Julie is directed by Liv Ullman and filmed on location in Castle Coole.
The film is the latest adaptation based on the play of the same name by Swedish playwright August Strindberg.
Originally set in Sweden and written in 1888, the film has been transferred to Fermanagh in 1890. The story involves Julie, played by Jessica Chastain, who is the troubled daughter of an Anglo-Irish aristocrat. She encourages her father's valet, John, played by Colin Farrell, to seduce her, while he is already engaged to the cook, played by Samantha Morton.
On its choice of Castle Coole in Co. Fermanagh, the production said: "After an extensive search across Europe, we selected County Fermanagh for its beautiful natural setting. It will form the perfect backdrop to Liv Ullmann's much anticipated adaption of Miss Julie and we look forward to presenting it to worldwide cinema audiences in all its glory."
MISS JULIE received funding from the Northern Ireland Screen Fund, supported by Invest NI and part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. It is also part-funded in association with Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB).
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said: "Northern Ireland has much to offer the film industry – great scenery, state of the art filming studios and a highly skilled workforce.
"Our ability to attract productions such as Miss Julie, starring Oscar nominated actors such as Jessica Chastain and renowned director Liv Ullman, who worked closely for many years with the legendary Ingmar Bergman, is a great example of how our screen industry has moved forward.
"It is my pleasure to welcome such a well known director and cast to Northern Ireland. It is especially pleasing that they have chosen county Fermanagh and the beautiful Castle Coole as the location for this film. This is yet another coup for Fermanagh, following the BBC's decision to film its comedy Blandings at the nearby Crom Castle.
"I know Colin Farrell has already said how impressed he and the rest of the cast and crew are with the stunning scenery in Fermanagh and the warm welcome they have received during their stay."
