Three children are raped in NI each week
Three children are raped and 10 are indecently assaulted in Northern Ireland each week, according to new statistics.
The shocking figures were revealed as children's charity NSPCC held its annual Children's Day event today. The event aims to highlight the work being done to combat such abuse across the province.
The charity said that proactive schemes such as Children's Day would help show people what their money is being spent on and may encourage others to help in their fight against such cruelty.
Services across Northern Ireland were today due to hold information mornings and lunches to let people see what their support helps to create.
Around 180 projects are currently run by the society throughout Northern Ireland, England and Wales.
NSPCC Northern Ireland also runs 15 projects supporting children and families as well as fundraising, training, safeguarding work, lobbying and raising awareness of child protection issues.
The charity is currently appealing for volunteers to join their fundraising network in Northern Ireland.
