Controlled explosion carried out on device in Dublin
Dublin was at the centre of a bomb warning today after a pipebomb was left close to the Irish Parliament.
Gardai confirmed that the device was left inside the railings of the National Gallery near the Dail.
The Samaritans received a telephone warning about the device at around 6.30am on Tuesday morning.
Irish army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on the device shortly afterwards. The gardai describe the development as "worrying".
Although no one has claimed responsibility for the device it is unclear whether it is linked to the visit of British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Mr Blair is arriving in Dublin today to discuss the current difficulties in the Northern Ireland peace process with Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.
