Cancer Charity Urges Belfast Marathon Sign-Up
Cancer focus Northern Ireland has encouraged the public to take part in this year's Belfast Marathon, as the countdown to race day begins.
The official marathon charity is urging would-be participants to sign up for May 6, whether it be to take part in the relay, fun run or walk.
Joyce Savage, Cancer Focus’s Head of Appeals and Marketing, said: "The final deadline is Friday April 19, so if you haven’t signed up yet, there is still time. Please also tick the box and raise funds for Cancer Focus, which has been supporting your local community for the last 40 years.
"Our marathon theme is Run it for Yer Man, and we are focusing on our husbands, dads, brothers, sons and friends. It’s easy to forget that almost as many men are diagnosed each year with prostate cancer as women are with breast cancer. In fact, nearly 6,000 men get all kinds of cancer each year – and we are here to help.
"We urgently need your help to provide lifeline services for them and their families and carers. We also fund research and do a great deal of cancer prevention work in schools, community venues and workplaces. Remember, we don’t get any money from your registration fee, so we do need you to raise sponsorship as well."
Joyce added: "If you can’t run or walk, please make a donation. Every amount you give, no matter how small, is crucial and will make a huge difference to local families across Northern Ireland. Marathon day, May 6, is also a fantastic event for all the family and we’d love to see you there to join in the fun. There are even prizes for the best fancy dress."
