L'Derry Mayor On 'Search And Rescue' Mission

L'Derry Mayor Councillor Kevin Campbell is to accompany local charity group Foyle Search and Rescue on patrol tonight for a so-called 'Night on the Beat'.

As this year’s chosen Mayoral charity, the Mayor is participating in the group's nightly patrol to experience the work first hand.

Speaking ahead of the patrol, the Mayor said: "Given the recent disturbing news reports surrounding the River Foyle, I felt it was appropriate to join Foyle Search and Rescue for one of their nightly patrols to fully appreciate their dedication to the safety of our local community and valued contribution to the city’s emergency response and the conditions they work under."

Foyle Search and Rescue, marking its 20th anniversary this year, works to protect human life in and around the River Foyle, which is one of the most dangerous and fastest flowing rivers in Europe.

Their volunteers regularly patrol the river and its banks in all seasons and in all weathers.

The Mayor's participation forms part of a range of awareness and fundraising initiatives set up to profile the work of Foyle Search and Rescue.
