New JobCentre Opens In Cookstown

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry officially opened the new JobCentre offices in Cookstown today.

Speaking from the new premises at Molesworth Plaza, the Minister said: "This new JobCentre provides a spacious, welcoming and professional environment for customers in the Cookstown District Council area. The modern facility will further enhance the service delivered by my Department’s Employment Service and Careers Service. In addition to Employment adviser support on our employment programmes such as Steps to Work and the Youth Employment Scheme, employment advisors can put together a flexible package of support and training options designed to assist and prepare people back into work. Along with working with employers providing a free tailored recruitment service to assist them fill their vacancies, the JobCentre will also house a new Careers Resource Area which will provide an all-age guidance service on careers decision making and help with job search."

New facilities include touch-screen computers to allow users to browse up-to-date job vacancies with access to the Department's job search website JobCentreOnlineexternal link a Careers Resource area and meeting rooms for one to one consultations with Employment and Careers Advisors who are on hand to offer tailored advice to job seekers.

Call For Workers At JTI Gallahers To Be Given Help To Find New Jobs
Workers who have lost their jobs at cigarette makers JTI Gallahers should be given help to find new employment, according to Sinn Féin. Approximately 500 employees are to leave its plant in Ballymena, Co Antrim, today, 20 May. MLA Daithí McKay said it is a "significant blow" to the local economy.
