Molloy Prepares For London St Patrick's Mission
Newly-elected Mid-Ulster MP Francie Molloy is to travel to London this week to participate in the city's St Patrick's Day celebrations.
Mr Molloy took the Mid-Ulster seat after his Sinn Féin colleague, deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness stepped down. The party is currently seeking to end double jobbing by MLAs.
The St Patrick's Day trip to London will be Mr Molloy's first trip as a Sinn Féin MP.
Speaking as he prepares to travel to London on Wednesday, Mr Molloy said: "The St Patrick's events provide a very important opportunity to meet a range of political representatives as well as the Irish community in Britain. I am delighted this year to be one of the Sinn Féin MPs, MLAs, TDs and councillors in London and elsewhere to mark St Patrick’s Day and to discuss with the diaspora some of the issues of concern to them.
"It also gives Sinn Féin representatives the opportunity to engage with a wide spectrum of opinion to assess current political developments."
Outlining some of the events the Mid-Ulster MP continued: "Today, Monday, Aengus O Snodaigh TD will be in Westminster to attend the cross-party Champ reception in the House of Commons, hosted by Baroness Blood, Lord Glentoran, Baroness Harris and Lord Dubs. This event will be attended by an Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD and the British Prime Minister, David Cameron MP.
"On Tuesday, Michelle Gildernew MP will attend a reception in the Irish Embassy, hosted by the Irish Ambassador in London, while on Wednesday, myself and Conor Murphy MP, will attend a Federation of Irish Societies event in Westminster hosted by Chris Ruane MP and the All-Party Irish in Britain group.
"On St Patrick's Day itself, Mayo Councillor Rose Conway Walsh will represent Sinn Féin at the Annual Parade and Festival in central London. Last weekend, Sinn Féin's European director, Sean Oliver and Assembly Member Mickey Brady were in Liverpool for a St Patrick’s gala dinner hosted by the University of Liverpool's Institute of Irish Studies."
