High Pollution Monitored
High levels of pollution are currently being recorded in the Belfast area.
The Executive says the high levels are being monitored, along with more moderate levels in the Lisburn area.
There are moderate levels of pollution also being monitored in the L'Derry area.
It is likely to be associated with the build up of emissions from vehicles and home heating, a statement said.
During periods of high air pollution the symptoms of people with lung or heart disease may worsen.
Asthmatics may their symptoms will ease through use of relief inhalers.
Others affected by pollution are advised to reduce the amount of time spent outdoors and avoid busy, congested streets.
The Executive has advised residents to avoid burning solid fuels if possible and burning only smokeless fuels in smoke control areas.
It is also important to avoid lighting bonfires while pollution levels are high.
Road users are asked to only make necessary journeys by car, and to drive "smoothly" to save fuel and money and cut down on polluting emissions.
