Planning Given For UU Belfast Campus

Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry has welcomed planning approval for a new University of Ulster development at York Street Belfast.

The Minister said: "I welcome the granting of planning approval of the new University of Ulster development at York Street. This will allow the university to move forward with its plans to create an excellent environment for students and staff alike.

"It is great news, too, for Belfast. The economic potential for the area is enormous not just with the jobs associated with the building phase, but with the spending power of the huge number of people visiting the campus on a daily basis and the opportunity for local businesses to serve the needs of the university."

The Department for Employment and Learning has contributed £16m towards the new campus.

BBC NI Marriage Film To Air

A new BBC Northern Ireland film entitled 'Love & Death in City Hall', which follows Belfast people as they deal with the highs and lows of life, has been filmed in the Registrar Office of Belfast City Hall.

The film will be shown on BBC One Northern Ireland on Monday 18 March at 21:00.

It follows seven couples from the moments of registration and is interspersed with reflections from register office staff.

Guy King, the film`s producer and director, said: "Have you ever wondered how strange is it that we register life`s happiest and saddest events in the same register office? It is literally the circle of life in one room. The stories unfold in the wooden booths in which the public meet with the registrars.

"The film reminds us that life's most poignant stories pass us on every street, and they're also around the next corner in our own lives. In this sense, the magic of the film is that it explores the extraordinary in the ordinary."
