Flag Protests Cost £20m
So far £20m has been spent on policing the union flag protests across Northern Ireland.
The figure has been released by the PSNI.
Chief constable Matt Baggott said the money had been “wasted” on policing "disorder that should never have happened in the first place".
Unionists and loyalists have been protesting regularly since Belfast City Council's decision on 3 December last year to restrict the flying of the union flag at City Hall.
While many of the protests have been peaceful, some have erupted into violence, including clashes with the nationalist Short Strand area and attacks on police officers.
The protests are thought to have had a detrimental effect on Belfast businesses, particularly in the run-up to Christmas, as shoppers avoided the city centre and tourists cancelled hotel bookings.
Mr Baggott said £11m of the cost of policing the protests had been "new money", while the rest was a result of "time not being spent on the things that matter".
"I think that it's a sadness," he added.
"That money should have been spent on tackling drug dealers, it should have been spent on officers patrolling in the heart of our most disadvantaged areas, it should have been spent on people trafficking, it should have been spent on new technology, it's been wasted dealing with disturbances and disorder that should never have happened in the first place."

Funding Secured For Voluntary Teacher Redundancies
Funding has been found for 30 voluntary redundancies, Education Minister John O'Dowd has announced. It follows protests held earlier this week over the low number of voluntary redundancies that the minister had approved. Previously 46 voluntary redundancies had been allowed but only in schools that where due to close or that were being amalgamated.

Traffic Warning For South Belfast Ahead Of Northern Ireland Match
Road users are advised to plan for potential traffic delays in the south Belfast area on Friday, 15th November due to the UEFA Nations League football match between Northern Ireland and Belarus. The match will take place at Windsor Park, kicking off at 7.45pm, and it is expected that around 18,000 supporters will attend.

The prison service in Northern Ireland has spent over £1m over the past three years on repairing damage caused by dissident republican protests. The news came as Justice Minister David Ford responded to a question by the DUP’s Alex Easton in a written answer. The total cost for the three years of the 'dirty' protest is £1,122,720.

Concerns Raised Over Cost Of Policing At Woodburn Site
Serious concerns have been raised over the cost of policing on the drilling site at Woodburn near Carrickfergus. Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan said the money would be better spent on community policing after it emerged that it has cost almost £200,000 since February.
