Overend Welcomes New Jobs In Coalisland

Ulster Unionist MLA for Mid-Ulster, Sandra Overend has welcomed the news that 150 jobs have been created in the area, with the opening of the Newell Stores supermarket in Coalisland.

Mrs Overend, who is the Ulster Unionist Party spokesperson for the Economy, said: "The opening of the Newell Stores supermarket will provide a real boost to the Mid-Ulster economy. The creation of 150 new jobs is significant at any time, and even more so during the continued economic downturn. This ambitious project has also employed many local people in its various stages of construction, and will hopefully continue to create jobs in the future.

"However, the fact that over 3000 people applied for these jobs shows what demand there is for work in this area, and underlines the fact that there is much more that needs to be done to encourage local businesses and to support job creation. I urge the Executive to be pro-active in this task as we seek to grow the private sector in Northern Ireland."
