Mortar Men Due In Court

Two men charged over the discovery of four mortar bombs in a van in L'Derry on Sunday night, are due to appear in court.

Both men, aged 35 and 37, face charges of possession of explosives with intent to endanger life, possession of articles for terrorist purposes and conspiracy to cause an explosion.

Two other men, aged 31 and 37, have been released without charge.

The van was stopped by officers on the Letterkenny Road. It had its roof cut back so the mortars could be fired.

Police said they were "primed and ready to go".

Officer injured in hammer assault
A police officer has been injured after being struck with a hammer in Co Armagh at the weekend. The incident occurred after officers were called to the Thomas Street area of Portadown on Sunday after a Portuguese man reported damage to his car. When officers arrived they saw a man being assaulted in a separate incident nearby.

Men charged over mortar bomb
Two men have been charged with conspiring to murder members of the security forces. The charges relate to the discovery of a live mortar bomb in County Armagh. It was discovered, complete with a launching tube, close to a railway line near the Cornakinnegar Road, Lurgan on 5 April.

NI Men Among Four Charged In Dublin
The men who were charged at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin today in connection with the discovery of a mortar in Co Louth on Tuesday have been named as Dalton McKevitt, 35, from Dundalk and Niall Farrell, 34, also from Dundalk.

Appeal For Information On Aggravated Burglary In Cookstown
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a report of an aggravated burglary at the Queens Avenue area of Cookstown on Friday 3rd February. Shortly after 10pm, it was reported that four masked men entered a property in the area with one of the men armed with an iron bar and another man armed with a suspected firearm.

Three Arrested Over Machete Robbery
A man has robbed a cash in transit van with a machette in north Belfast. It happened on the Old Park Road at about lunchtime on Monday. Three men aged 24, 44, and 51 have been arrested. A sum of money has been recovered.
