Children's Charity Receives £1m Funding
A local children’s charity has benefited from fundraising which totaled more than £1m at the Belfast Business Awards 2012.
The Children’s MRI Scanner Appeal picked up a cheque of £1,321.81 which had been donated by the business leaders and sponsors at the 7th Belfast Business Awards gala ceremony in the City Hall on 8 November last year.
The Children’s MRI Scanner Appeal is one of the Lord Mayor of Belfast Alderman Gavin Robinson’s chosen charities this year.
He presented the cheque to the charity at City Hall this week.
"I am proud to present this cheque to the Children’s MRI Scanner Appeal to help with their very important campaign to raise donations towards securing a MRI scanner for the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children," the Lord Mayor said.
"I would like to thank all those who attended the Belfast Business Awards and donated to such a worthy cause. The 7th Belfast Business Awards celebrated the achievements of businesses and businessmen and women across the city making the night a memorable one and one of the highlights of the city`s social calendar."
Accepting the cheque, Nigel Kearney from the Children’s MRI Appeal, said: "We`re delighted to have been chosen as the Belfast Business Awards' charity this year. The money raised will go towards the ongoing campaign to raise £2m to provide an MRI Scanner for the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children which is currently the only Children's Hospital in the UK which does not have a scanner on site."
Eleven awards were presented to businesses across the city at the Awards, covering all sectors of the business world from 'Best Hospitality Business', 'Best Green Business', 'Best Creative Business' and 'Customer Excellence – Retail'.
