Communities Consulted Over Stadium Developments
Residents in south and west Belfast are being consulted on proposed developments for the Windsor and Casement Park stadiums, to see how they can be used to benefit the communities.
£25.2m is being committed to the Irish Football Association to develop Windsor Park, home of the Northern Ireland football team, while £61.4m has been granted to the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) to benefit Casement Park, Northern Ireland’s principle Gaelic sports stadium.
Meetings to discuss the developments will take place at Olympia Community Centre on Wednesday 13 February at 19:00 and Andersonstown Leisure Centre on Wednesday 27 February 19.30.
"As part of our Investment Programme 2012-2015, the council is keen to work with both the IFA and GAA to make the most of the developments," explained Councillor Gerard McCabe, Chairman of the Parks and Leisure Committee.
"The Windsor and Casement Park projects will transform their surrounding areas and bring investment and visitors into Belfast, but we want to make sure those living near the sites feel the benefits as much as possible, as well as ensuring the new facilities are shared by everyone.
"The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure have asked us to report back to them by May 2013, with details of any proposals we have to maximise the benefits of the plans for both sites, so these meetings will help to inform our work."
