Tyrone Bridge-Widening Scheme Begins
Work has already begun on a £340,000 bridge-widening scheme in Beragh, County Tyrone.
Preparatory work is currently underway, but the Executive says it will have no impact on the travelling public until temporary traffic signals are erected on 21 January, after which time some minor delays should be expected.
The Roads Service hopes to complete the work by June this year, dependent on weather conditions. It says it will keep the public informed of any change to the programme.
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy announced the works.
He said: "The bridge widening scheme at Beragh Water Bridge which carries the B46 Cooley Road over the Cloughfin River will provide a footway connection between McFarland Terrace on the Cooley Road to the east of Beragh and the town’s Main Street.
"Currently, there are no footways on the bridge. By widening the bridge, the scheme will allow footways to be provided to both sides of the road. This will be facilitated by extending the arches of the structure. The widened structure will be clad in masonry and will retain a similar appearance to that of the old bridge."
The Roads Service says it has designed and programmed the works to minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public.
