Man Arrested Over Alliance Home Attacks
The PSNI has arrested a man in Bangor over an alleged attack on the home of two Alliance Party councillors.
Michael and Christine Bower’s home in the Carnalea area was attacked on 5 December last year.
A window was smashed and paint was thrown over the front of the property.
The 40-year-old accused is being questioned by detectives regarding the criminal damage.
The attack is one of a series suffered by Alliance councillors and other politicians since the decision to limit the flying of the union flag on top of City Hall.
The nationalist majority on Belfast City Council had initially proposed to remove the flag all together, but opted instead for an Alliance compromise. It will now be flown on UK designated days, which include Royal birthdays, Remembrance Sunday and St. Patrick’s Day.
Unionists and loyalists have said the decision is an attack on their cultural identity.
