Man Sentenced To Five Years For Having A Loaded Gun

A man has been jailed for five years for having a loaded gun outside a pub in Magherafelt.

Dominic Leo McGrath, 35, from Altowen Park, Coalisland, who has 64 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to a number of offences on 8th September last year.

The court heard he was removed from the bar earlier in the day, however he returned to the location in a speeding car, which he was driving.

A police officer approached the car and removed the keys. McGrath threw the loaded gun into the back seat.

Loaded Gun Found In West Belfast
A loaded gun has been found in an underground car park in west Belfast. Police at Woodbourne were handed the gun by a member of the public after it was discovered at the North Howard Street car park on Thursday morning. An army bomb team was called and examined the gun and made it safe.

Over £1m Secured For Early Years Fund
Over £1 million in funding has been secured for the Early Years Fund. The Fund, which supports 153 early years organisations across Northern Ireland, will use the funding to ensure current services continue until March 2016. Education Minister John O'Dowd confirmed £1.1m in funding.
