Ford Hosts Human Trafficking Meeting
Justice Minister David Ford has hosted the first meeting of a new group set up to tackle the issue of human trafficking.
The Engagement Group has been set up to formalise and improve the engagement between the Department of Justice, police, health representatives and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) on the issue of human trafficking.
Speaking at the first meeting of the Engagement Group, David Ford acknowledged the participation of all organisations.
He said: "There are many community and voluntary organisations and groups across Northern Ireland who are working hard to tackle human trafficking. I am encouraged by the immense interest that you have all shown in relation to human trafficking and I continue to be impressed by your willingness to contribute to the fight against it.
"I believe that we should work co-operatively to achieve our shared goal of tackling human trafficking and that this Engagement Group provides a unique opportunity for statutory agencies to capture the energy, enthusiasm and ideas that NGOs have on this issue."

MLAs Debate Human Trafficking Bill
MLAs are debating a human trafficking bill, drawn up by DUP peer Lord Morrow. It is understood that the new Bill contains a clause that would make it illegal to pay for sex, a clause that has been opposed by Justice Minister David Ford. However, both the DUP and Sinn Féin are understood to be in favour of the clause.
