Norman Moffatt Murder - Man Charged

A man has been charged with perverting the course of justice over the murder of Norman Moffat in 2001.

73-year-old Mr Moffatt was attacked and stabbed in January 2001 as he walked home from the shop after getting his morning paper. He died two months later.

The accused, 49, will appear at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Earlier this year, a 42-year-old man was charged with the fatal stabbing of Mr Moffatt.

Campsite Proposed For L'Derry

Derry City Council is currently proposing a new campsite beside St Columb’s Park as part of the City of Culture 2013 preparations.

It is hoped the campsite will accommodate visitors to the city next year.

A public information session has been held at St Columb's Park House.

The site is expected to cost £290,000 and could be open as soon as May 2013, provided the plans are approved.

Some residents have expressed concern over the proposal.

Man Assaulted In L'Derry Hijacking

A man has been assaulted during a hijacking in County L’Derry.

The man was forced to make an emergency stop when two men appeared infront of his van on the Churchtown Road in Garvagh at about 21:30 on Wednesday.

The men dragged him out of his vehicle and punched and kicked him. They stole the van and drove off towards Dungiven.

The driver has been treated in hospital.

The hijackers wore hooded tops and had their faces covered.

North Coast Power Restored

25,000 people along the north coast have had their power restored.

A fault at a power station affected electricity supplies in nearby areas including Coleraine, Portush, Portstewart and Bushmills.

Man Arrested Over George Gilmore Murder
Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the murder of loyalist George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. A 32-year-old man arrested on Sunday, 19 March, has been released.

Man Charged With Attempted Murder
A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. The victim, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition after being assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. The suspect is due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates' Court on Monday, 17 October.

Seven Charged With Strickland Murder
A fourth man has been charged with the murder of Phillip Strickland in Comber last week, bringing the total to seven. The 36-year-old was found in a car on Quarry Road, off the Ballydrain Road, near Comber on Wednesday last. He had been shot several times and was declared dead in hospital a short time later.

Man arrested over Electoral Office fraud
A 58-year-old man from Co Tyrone has been arrested and charged following a police investigation into irregularities at an Electoral Office in the west of the province. The man was charged with 30 offences, 17 of which relate to theft and 13 of fake accounting. He will appear before a court in Omagh on November 11.
