National Trust Challenges Golf Course Development
The National Trust has said "nowhere is safe from development" if a new golf resort near the Giant’s Causeway goes ahead.
The Trust told members in a letter Northern Ireland needs a planning system that "works properly".
The National Trust’s 60,000 members are being encouraged to lobby MLAs over the go-ahead for the £100m resort.
The resort is to be built at Runkerry on the County Antrim coast, about a mile from the Giant’s Causeway.
The National Trust has already received criticism for its decision to mount a legal challenge against the plans.
The application was approved in February.
The DUP’s Ian Paisley JR has called the Trust’s challenge a "disgrace". He said he feared legal action could take some time, and that developers may begin looking elsewhere.
The Department of the Environment released a statement to the BBC, criticising the letter.
"The National Trust letter does not acknowledge the financial, planning and material contributions of central and local government and its agencies to the particular work of the National Trust and to the general protection and positive development of the wonderful natural, built and archaeological heritage of Northern Ireland," it said.
"Indeed, the evidence of the work of government, its agencies and its partners - including but not exclusively the National Trust is all around us. All those who so contribute - including government - should be acknowledged and applauded."
