Man Arrested Over Cannabis Factory

A man has been charged following the discovery of a cannabis factory in Ballygowan, County Down.

The 43-year-old was charged with cultivation and possession of the drug after cannabis plants with an estimated value of around £100,000 were discovered.

He is due to appear at North Down Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning.

Arrests Made Over 2006 Murder

Two men have been arrested in the Republic of Ireland in connection with a murder in Northern Ireland six years ago.

Thomas O'Hare, 33, and 21-year-old Lisa McClatchey died after they were doused in petrol and set on fire in November 2006 at their home in Tassagh, near Keady in County Armagh.

The two victims later died of their injuries in hospital. The men have been detained by Gardai and are expected in court later.

Flybe Plane Makes Emergency Belfast Landing

A Flybe plane has been diverted to Belfast International Airport after its pilot declared an emergency.

The plane was flying from Southampton and was due to land at Belfast City Airport.

The pilot made the decision to land at International when a problem developed with the aircraft.

53 passengers were then bussed to the City Airport.

Man Calls 999 Over Closed Chinese Restaurant

The PSNI have been reacting to a 999 call from a County Down man who complained that his local Chinese restaurant were not answering their phone.

Police reminded the man the 999 number was strictly for emergencies, to which the man replied it was an emergency, as he wanted to order a meal.

A local police inspector said he had "arranged for the local neighbourhood officer to call with this man and give him some advice."

One In Five NI 999 Calls Not Emergencies
According to the latest records, one in five 999 calls in Northern Ireland last year did not actually require emergency assistance. Approximately 28,500 calls made last year did not require the expertise of a paramedic when they arrived at the scene.

Disabled pensioners targeted in robberies
An elderly couple in there 90s have been robbed in their County Down home. The elderly man, who is severely disabled, answered the front door of his home on the Dromore Road in Hillsborough to a man at about 11am on Tuesday. The caller, who is believed to be in his 40s, claimed to owe a relative of the man a sum of money.

BT's 999 Team Answer More Than 6m Emergency Calls In A Year
BT have revealed that they handled more than 6 million 999 calls in the last year, as it joins the emergency services in marking this years '999 Day'. BT call advisors are the "calm and collected voices" answering every emergency call.

MLAs Warned On Funding Crisis For Fire Service
It has been claimed that some 26 of Northern Ireland's fire stations are no longer "fit for purpose" – and that the 999 system is close to overload. The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has warned that while something like £15m is actually needed annually to maintain standards, they are only scheduled to get £4m.

999 Calls May Be Delayed Due To Strike Action
999 calls may be affected by the strike action being taken by Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) workers. Unite the union started a 24 hour strike, which began at midnight, in a dispute over pay. There may be some delays in response to emergency calls, the NIAS has warned.
