Fultons Furniture To Close

Furniture retailer Fultons is facing closure after administrators announced they have been unable to find a buyer.

The company was placed into administration in July.

PwC took over the running of the company. Administrators said they have received offers and approaches from interested parties, but that they have been unable to strike a deal.

Fultons owns a 60,000 sq ft showroom on Belfast's Boucher Road.

The business is reported to have been trading successfully while under administration, but could not continue indefinitely without a new owner.

Fultons will now begin the process of closing operations over the coming months.

New orders will be taken until 17 December and all existing orders will be fulfilled, but all floor stock has now been reduced.

The 45 people employed by Fultons are now facing losing their jobs.

The company opened its Belfast operation in 1991, moving to new premises in 2006. It originally began in Lurgan, County Armagh, over 50 years ago.

The news follows a period of hardship for businesses in the furniture and homeware industry, brought about by the current recession.
