FG Wilson selected for manufacturing award
FG Wilson, the largest manufacturer of diesel and gas generator sets in Europe and third largest in the world, has been selected as a finalist in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' (IMechE) prestigious Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2003.
The awards are designed to encourage and reward high standards and innovative working practices in UK companies, while setting a benchmark for running a successful and competitive business.
Speaking about the company's entry, Peadar Doyle, 6 Sigma Deployment Champion for FG Wilson (Engineering), said: "We are delighted to be finalists in this prestigious competition. Participating in the MX2003 assessment has provided us the opportunity to reflect on our achievements and to acknowledge the contribution of our continuous improvement initiatives. Reaching the finals is a tremendous recognition for the efforts and commitment of all FG Wilson people."
John Ling, IMechE Technical Manager, commented: "FG Wilson will be strong contenders in the Awards. We are now at a critical stage of the competition where the assessors visit the finalist companies for validation of their working practices. I wish all finalists the very best of luck."
The winner will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony on Wednesday evening, 25 June 2003, at the Dorchester Hotel, London.
FG Wilson is a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc.
The company employs over 2,200 people in Larne, Belfast and Newtownabbey in Northern Ireland and exports to over 170 markets across the globe.
