Crash Death In L'Derry
A person has been killed in a road accident in County L’Derry.
It is understood the crash involved a car and a lorry and occurred between Magherafelt and Moneymore on Thursday night.
It has also been reported that four other people were injured in the crash, one of them seriously.
Scrapyards In Environmental Crime Investigation
Two scrapyards in Fermanagh and Tyrone are currently under investigation for alleged environmental crime.
A yard in Enniskillen was raided by police, along with environment agency and revenue and custom officers.
Environment Minister Alex Attwood has called for enforcement of the law to protect the environment and legitimate waste businesses.
Contaminated vehicle engines were discovered in a skip in the Enniskillen yard.
Tests are being carried out following the discovery of an oil leakage coming from the skip. Officers want to determine if pollution is entering a stream and flowing into Lough Erne.
Investigations are continuing into the operation of the site and another in Dromore, County Tyrone.
Letter Bomb Discovered In Co Down
A letter bomb has been discovered inside a post-box in Clough, County Down.
It was found on the Dundrum Road.
Police say it was capable of causing death or serious injury.
The device was found at about 21:00 on Thursday evening following reports of a man acting suspiciously.
Army technical officers made the device safe and it has now been taken away for examination.
Farmers Welcome Red Diesel Move
Northern Ireland’s farmers have welcomed a move which allows red diesel to be used in tractors to help grit and clear snow during periods of extreme weather.
Currently the law states only vehicles designed solely for gritting can use red diesel for that purpose.
Change to legislation which would allow red diesel to be used in tractors while gritting is under consideration.

Four red squirrels born at Belfast Zoo have been released into the wild at Glenarm estate in County Antrim. Zoo curator and chairperson of the Belfast Zoo native species group, Alyn Cairns, explained: "Here at the zoo, we care for and conserve a variety of endangered species from across the world.

Party Leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP and Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart heard first-hand the "crippling impact" these changes would have upon the economy and how they would serve to drive up the cost of living.

Red Squirrel Faces New Threat
Northern Ireland's already dwindling red squirrel population was dealt another blow with the recent discovery of a fatal squirrel disease. The infected red squirrels were first spotted by members of the Tollymore Red Squirrel Group. This marks the first recorded instance of a red squirrel dying from this disease.
