Michaela McAreavey Murder Accused To Sue Police
A man acquitted for the murder of Michaela McAreavey in Mauritius is threatening to sue the local police for damages.
27-year-old Ms McAreavy was killed at the Legends hotel on the island in January 2011.
Avinash Treebhoowoon and Sandip Moneea were cleared of the killing in July of this year.
Mr Treebhoowoon has claimed "tremendous moral trauma" following his 18-month detention and alleged torture by detectives.
His lawyer has demanded his client be compensated to the tune of 75m Mauritian rupees, equivalent to about £1.5m.
Mrs McAreavey was the daughter of Tyrone Gaelic football manager Mickey Harte.
She was found dead in her hotel room during her honeymoon.
Detectives in Mauritius started a new investigation the day after the trial ended.
Last month the McAreavey family announced they were beginning a civil case against a Mauritian newspaper which published images of her dead body.
The said any damages would be donated to a charity foundation set up in memory of Michaela.

Attorney General To Examine Papers Of Michaela McAreavey Murder
Northern Ireland's Attorney General is to examine papers from the trial into the murder of Michaela McAreavey it has been revealed. Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness is calling for the perpetrators of the killing to be brought to justice. Mr McGunness said that there was "every prospect" of a new trial.
