Man Jailed Over Petrol Bomb Attack
A man from L’Derry has been jailed for six years for throwing petrol bombs at police and the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall.
24-year-old Caolan Kavanagh, whose address was given as Maghaberry prison, carried out the attack during a parade in August 2011.
He admitted 18 public order offences. It was revealed the defendant also had sixteen previous convictions.
He will be on licence for three years once he is released from jail.
He was previously convicted for setting fire to a door at the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall while three hundred people were inside attending a charity event.
Phillip Strickland Murder - Suspect Released
A 44-year-old man has been released following his arrest for the murder of Philip Strickland near Comber, County Down.
Mr Strickland was found injured in a car on Quarry Road, off the Ballydrain Road on 11 January, having been shot.
Passing motorists came to his aid and attempted to give Mr Strickland first aid, but the 36-year-old later died in hospital.
The suspect has been released pending reports.
Arson Attack On L'Derry Family Home
A family in L’Derry has been the victim of an arson attack at their home.
Father Alan Jack said his family were in bed when arsonists dropped a lit paper bag through the letterbox of their home.
The incident occurred in Eastway in Creggan on Thursday night.
He said the fire could have spread to the curtains by the door, which would have led to his wife and three children being trapped downstairs.
Belfast Beats Beijing In New Study
Belfast has better infrastructure than Rome and Beijing, according to new research,
Northern Ireland’s capital has landed 69th place in a Mercer analysis of 221 cities around the world.
Dublin came 62nd while London was sixth.
The top-ranking cities included Singapore, Frankfurt and Munich.
The study took into account electricity and water supply, telephone and mail services, public transport, traffic congestion and access to airports.
Mercer's 18th annual Quality of Living Survey found Belfast was 64th in terms of overall living-quality.
The top city in the world was Vienna, followed by Zurich, Auckland, Munich and Vancouver.

Muslim family endure attack on family home
A gang of around ten men has targeted the County Armagh home of a Muslim family in what is thought to have been a racially motivated attack. The attack occurred at around 2.30am on Saturday morning when the family were at home in their house in the Enniskeen area of Craigavon.

Three More Charged With Strickland Murder
A further three men have appeared in court charged with the murder of Phillip Strickland outside Comber last week. The 36-year-old was found in a car on Quarry Road, off the Ballydrain Road, near Comber on Wednesday last. He had been shot several times and was declared dead in hospital a short time later.

Three released on bail over city attack
Three males arrested in connection with a serious assault in west Belfast last weekend, have been released on bail pending further inquiries. The arrests were made in connection with an attack on a man aged in his 20s, outside a bowling club on the Andersonstown Road area of the city at around 11.30pm last Friday night.

A man arrested in connection with attacks on the homes of former Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams and prominent republican Bobbey Storey has been released on bail. Explosive devices were thrown at their homes in west Belfast on Friday, 13 July. Damage was caused to the windscreen of Mr Adams' car.

Three Arrested After Man Dies In Stabbing Attack
Three men have been arrested following a stabbing attack in Craigavon, in the early hours of Sunday morning. The 45-year-old man was stabbed at a house in Parkmore. He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries. The man's name has not yet been released. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
