Call For Home Help Job Cuts To Be Reversed
Speaking at a SIPTU public meeting in Roscommon town Fine Gael TD, Frank Feighan, conceded that cuts to home help services were wrong.
He said that he would be bringing this issue back to the attention of Minister for Health, James Reilly, and will seek the reversal of the cuts. He also admitted that this issue had not been dealt with fairly by the Government to date.
Earlier, Roscommon County Council passed a motion calling on the Government to reverse the cuts to Home Help services, joining counties Limerick, Cork, Offaly, and Donegal whose councils have made similar calls.
The meeting at Hannon's Hotel, arranged as part of SIPTU's 'Time To Care' campaign, saw local TD’s, Senators and Councillors meet with the Roscommon SIPTU Home Helps Committee to hear at first-hand how the cuts are affecting the elderly and vulnerable across the county.
Luke Ming Flanagan TD and Denis Naughton TD assured all present that they would continue to raise this issue at every opportunity.
Senator John Kelly (Labour) also pledged to go back to his parliamentary party this week to deliver the message that cuts must be reversed.
