Pat Finucane Report To Be Published Next Month

A report into the murder of Belfast solicitor, Pat Finucane, will be published on Wednesday 12th December, the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) has announced.

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Theresa Villiers said: "A statement will be made to this House at the time the Report is published."

Mr Finucane was murdered in his home in north Belfast by loyalist paramilitaries in 1989.

Sir Desmond de Silva QC has carried out a legal review of the case.

The Finucane family will continue to campaign for a full independent public inquiry.

Govt Will Not Hold Public Inquiry Into Murder Of Pat Finucane
The UK Government has decided not to establish a public inquiry into the murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane. Mr Finucane, a practicing lawyer, was murdered in his home in North Belfast on the evening of Sunday 12 February 1989. He was shot 14 times. The attack was carried out by gunmen from a loyalist paramilitary group.

Finucane Family Await Inquiry Decision
The family of murdered Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane have called for 'transparency' should an inquiry be launched into his death. "The British Government must be fully transparent if they choose to launch an inquiry into my father’s murder," said John Finucane.

Inquest Ordered Into 1973 Rubber Bullet Death
A fresh inquest has been granted by the Attorney General into the death of a 21-year-old man who was struck by a rubber bullet while returning from a night out in L'Derry. On 18 May 1973 Thomas Friel was hit by the bullet in the Creggan area of the city and died four days later.
