Michaela McAreavey Family To Sue Mauritian Newspaper For Damages

The family of Tyrone woman Michaela McAreavey, who was murdered in Mauritius, has begun a civil case against a Mauritian newspaper which published images of her dead body.

The 27-year-old was killed at the Legends Hotel in January 2011 while she was on honeymoon with her husband John.

The Harte and McAreavey families will sue the Mauritius Sunday Times and the editor Imraan Hosany.

Hosany is currently on bail.

Two former hotel workers were acquitted of the crime.

In a statement the family said: "By printing, distributing and/or causing to be published these photos of the late Michaela Harte body as taken by the police photographer, defendants had committed a serious and unforgivable faute towards the plaintiffs.

Any damages will be donated to a charity foundation set up in memory of Michaela.
