Co-operative Poultry Closure Results In 90 Job Losses

SIPTU is seeking an urgent meeting with the liquidator appointed to Co-operative Poultry Products Ltd in Cootehill, Co. Cavan, following the company's closure which has resulted in 90 job losses.

Workers have been informed that the plant was to close with immediate effect. Simon Coyle of Mazars was appointed as liquidator to the company.

SIPTU Organiser, Jim Finnegan, said: "The closure of this long established co-operative will have a devastating effect on the local community. Not only must 90 workers and their families deal with the loss of their livelihoods but more than 25 local growers have also lost their source of income."

Diageo to axe 90 jobs on London brewery closure
Around 90 jobs are to be lost in London after drinks giant Diageo announced it will no longer brew Guinness in the capital. The company said it would be closing its Park Royal brewery and transferring production from the UK, its largest market, to the St James's Gate site in Dublin. Diageo blamed changing drinking habits in the UK for the decision.

Around 90 Jobs To Go At NIE
Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) is to reportedly axe around 90 jobs amid "efficiency" plans for the business. Sinn Fein MLA Cathal Boylan has called for a meeting with the firm to discuss the need to safeguard the welfare of workers. He said: "Whatever the outcome of this, the lives and livelihoods of employees must be protected.

Ninety Building Jobs On Way
Up to 90 jobs are to be created as the construction of a new data centre gets underway in Dublin. StructureTone has been appointed to build the €12 million facility for Interxion Ireland, which will employ 90 construction workers over the initial phase. The data centre is due to be completed in early 2010.

Jobs Fillip From Randox
Randox Laboratories, has created 32 new jobs in Northern Ireland. The firm employs a total of 850 people in 26 countries worldwide. It created 230 new jobs in the past year. It makes medical diagnostic equipment and sells over 90% of its products abroad.
