BBC NI Considers Titanic Quarter Move

BBC Northern Ireland is thought to be considering a relocation to Belfast’s Titanic Quarter.

Chief executive of the Titanic Quarter property company David Gavaghan told Ulster Business magazine that the broadcaster may move to the new east Belfast development.

BBC NI is currently located in the city centre, at Broadcasting House on Ormeau Avenue and Blackstaff House on Great Victoria Street.

A statement from the broadcaster said it was "carrying out a feasibility study looking at a wide range of options which include the redevelopment of the existing site and the possibility of relocation to other sites.

"No decisions have been taken yet."

Mr Gavaghan told the magazine he had recently visited the BBC's new MediaCity site in Salford and was inspired by the "creative campus" there.

"Getting the data centre here is a big thing which we're working hard on that would allow us to build up the whole creative media campus beyond the BBC if it does relocate - and we don't know the timing on that," he told the magazine.

The recent Salford development and selling of Television Centre in west London are part of a new review of the broadcaster’s property portfolio.

Bristol, Cardiff and Belfast are next in line for redevelopment, with a number of locations being considered for BBC NI.
