Construction sector growth slows
The rate of growth in construction activity has slowed to its lowest level in almost a year, according to the latest Construction Activity Indicator from analysts Experian Business Strategies.
The activity index is based on past levels of orders and tender enquiries taken from the monthly surveys of construction activity for the European Commission, and forecasts the outlook for activity in the UK over the next few months.
The newest figures suggest that growth has indeed slowed – but is set to rise slightly over the next quarter, driven by a pick-up in orders and tender enquiries in the building sector.
Other results from the survey showed that despite an improved overall outlook for the industry, most construction firms are now less optimistic about employment and tender prices over the next three months.
Jane Croot, Associate Director at Experience Business Strategies, said: "With the moderation in activity seen in February, insufficient demand has become more of a constraint on activity, although improvements in weather conditions have meant that this is now less of a problem for contractors."
