Cross Border Bridge Gets Go Ahead
Planning permission has been granted for a new £22m (€27.6m) cross-border bridge, linking Warrenpoint, Co Down with Co Louth near Omeath and close to Carlingford Lough.
The total length is approximately 660 metres and the project is seeking most of the money from the EU's fund for development in border regions.
Pamela Arthurs, who helped lead efforts to build the bridge on behalf of district councils, said: “We have first initiated this in 1976 and this has been a major project but it is not just about the fact that we will have a bridge, it is what it symbolises in how far we have come as a country.”
Northern Ireland's planning minister Alex Attwood approved the application and said he hopes that a similarly positive decision will come from the authorities in the Republic where the matter is still being considered.
An application has been made by Louth County Council and a separate application is before An Bord Pleanála.

Contractors in Co Tyrone are to get a fillip soon as a major contract to improve the riverbank area of Omagh has been approved. The £4million face lift will take place over the next two years with Omagh District Council receiving 100% funding from Europe as part of the 'OASIS Project.

Planning Approved For Major Office Development In Belfast
Planning has been approved to develop a major office development in Belfast. The £55 million Grade A office building will be located on East Bridge Street and was given the green light by Belfast City Council's Planning Committee. It is believed it has the potential to create 2,500 jobs.

Londonderry's new 'Peace Bridge' has been celebrated with a weekend of festivities marking the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday. While it is six months behind the original schedule for completion, the £14m cycle and footbridge remains one of the biggest projects undertaken in the area in years.
