Child Cancer Sufferer Unable To Complete Treatment
The family of Oscar Knox, the four-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer has said he will be unable to complete specialist medical treatment.
Oscar travelled to the United States last week for special immunotherapy treatment to prepare him for any return of neuroblastoma in his body.
The family, from County Antrim, had raised £250,000 to pay for the treatment, which would have taken six months at a centre in Philadelphia to complete.
His parents said the treatment would have boosted his immune system to fight the cancer if it was ever to come back.
Oscar has a Twitter account with over 17,000 followers, which he and his family use to post updates on his progress.
On Wednesday, a Tweet informed his followers the treatment would no longer be possible due to pulmonary hypertension.
His family say the main aim is now to stabilise Oscar’s condition and to get him back to Northern Ireland.
An update on Thursday morning said: "Oscar doing really well this morning. The night (so far) couldn't have gone much better! So proud of him. Such a fighter."
The Knox family and supporters raised the £250,000 needed to begin treatment in just three months.
Oscar’s supporters include Olympic medallist Paddy Barnes, Westlife singer Nicky Byrne, the late Ulster rugby player Nevin Spence and Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle.

Rise In Uptake Of Drug & Alcohol Treatment Services
The number of people receiving treatment for drug and alcohol abuse in Northern Ireland has grown, a recent census has shown. Some 6,743 people were in active treatment in April 2019, for either drug or alcohol abuse or both. This represents a rise in clients from 5,969 in the 2017 census.

Commissioning work begins at water treatment facility
The Water Service has begun commissioning works on its £20m water treatment plant in Co Down. The largest water treatment facility to be built to date in Northern Ireland, the three-month commissioning period will involve rigorous testing of all the state-of-the-art systems at Drumaroad, near Castlewellan.

Water and sewerage infrastructure receives £100m
Regional Development Minister, Peter Robinson has outlined plans to invest almost £100 million on upgrading the province's water and sewerage infrastructure. The Minister was speaking on Friday, June 28, at the opening of the new Derg Water Treatment Works near Castlederg, which was constructed at a cost of £10.3 million.
