Derry City Council receive national Health and Safety Award

Derry City Council has received a National award for its efforts to promote a safer and healthier workplace as part of the European Week of Safety and Health 2003 promoted by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland.

The Euro Safety Award is the second award for the Council’s Managing Stress at Work Initiative. The initiative received a regional award earlier this year.

The Mayor, Cllr. Kathleen McCloskey said she was delighted with the news: “As the only Local Authority in Northern Ireland to receive an accolade from the National Euro Safety Awards this is a great acknowledgement of the effort and innovation for all those involved in the highly successful Managing Stress at Work Week. The initiative was both imaginative and enjoyable as well as effective in raising awareness of stress in the workplace”.

The Managing Stress at Work Initiative was a series of workshops, classes and information highlighting the causes and reduction techniques relating to Stress. It took place during European Week of Safety and Health 2002 and the National award acknowledged the contribution the initiative made to tackling health issues in the workplace.
