Kennedy praises PSNI's success tackling organised crime
Security Minister, Jane Kennedy has publicly praised the Police Service for Northern Ireland (PSNI) at an Organised Crime Task Force roadshow in Belfast.
Thanking the Chief Constable Hugh Orde for his efforts the Minister highlighted the work being done which has led to nearly £7 million worth of fake designer clothing, CDs, videos, computer games and software being seized last year.
In response, the Chief Constable referred to the need for working partnerships and the longterm commitment of Task Force member agencies and partners in their crackdown on organised crime.
He added: "The problem of counterfeit currency has been tackled when over £750,000 worth of notes and coins were seized, a 110% increase on the preceding year. Drugs with a street value of over £1.25 million were also seized and a consignment of Ecstasy tablets worth £3 million just last month."
Mr Orde added that he realises there are no quick fix solutions or easy answers, but was confident that by working together the problem of organised crime could be stamped out.

Man Arrested in Belfast Following Series of Drug Seizures
Police arrested a 44-year-old man after stopping and searching a vehicle on the Crumlin Road, Belfast, on Thursday afternoon. Officers located drugs with an estimated street value of £75,000 within the vehicle. Follow-up searches were conducted at three properties in east Belfast and Antrim.

A 38-year-old man has been jailed in connection with the largest single drug seizure by the PSNI. At Belfast Crown Court, Andrew Stafford pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply and possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.
