Order For 600 'Boris Buses' Welcomed

North Antrim MP Ian Paisley has hailed the approval by Transport for London’s Board for the purchase of 600 new buses as a major boost for Northern Ireland.

The buses which be delivered into passenger service by the end of April 2016 will be built by Ballymena company Wrightbus. Welcoming the announcement the local MP said: "Ballymena built buses are already on the streets of places such as Hong Kong and Las Vegas as well as across the United Kingdom. However, the approval of this latest order from Transport for London is another very significant boost for the local economy.

"The ability of Wrightbus to secure these kind of orders comes the company’s innovation and commitment to quality. It is this kind of high quality and high value engineering which can ensure that Northern Ireland companies can compete with, and beat the best in the world to secure contracts.

"The workforce at Wrightbus are exceptionally committed and skilled, and this order will be a major boost to the local economy. The company has recently a similar sized order for 550 double deck bus kits to be supplied to Singapore. These orders will provide job security for staff for many years to come and it further serves to enhance the stature of this local company which is a world-leader in its field."
