Duke Special In Court On Driving Offences
Belfast musician Duke Special has appeared in court on driving charges.
The 41-year-old singer and piano player, who appeared under his offstage name Peter Wilson, faced a charge of dangerous driving at Dundalk District Court yesterday.
The charge relates to an allegation of dangerous driving on the M1 motorway at Gibbstown on August 22.
Mr Wilson's lawyer, Eleanor Kelly, asked the judge to grant legal aid for her client and said a driving conviction would be "detrimental" to his career as he is a self-employed musician who travels around.
But Judge Flann Brennan refused the application, saying he did not grant legal aid for driving offences.
The case was adjourned until December and Mr Wilson was remanded on continuing bail.
