Call For Target Express Workers To Receive Entitlements ASAP
Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane has called on the Government and the Department of Social Protection to ensure that the workers at Target Express receive their entitlements as soon as is possible.
The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Workers' Rights was responding to the news today that the company was being placed in to liquidation, as it emerged the company was insolvent.
"It is deeply regrettable that the company has closed, and that these jobs are to be lost. The liquidator has stated that the company is 'hopelessly insolvent', which is a damning indictment of the management of the company. They kept the workers in the dark from the outset, and refused to engage with them.
"I, and other Sinn Féin representatives all over Ireland, have been in contact with the workers from the outset, and offering whatever support we could. The version of events recounted to us by the workers, detailing financial mismanagement, and a generally cavalier attitude to the rights of workers, has unfortunately been proved accurate.
"The key priority now, has to be that the workers get what they are entitled to as soon as possible. The Department of Social Protection needs to ensure that their statutory redundancy, but also the outstanding wages, holiday pay, and other payments due to them, is processed as a matter of urgency under the insolvency fund."
